What is Prostaphane® ?
Sulforaphane is a natural substance extracted from broccoli seeds. It is particularly valued for its cellular protection properties.
The health benefits of cruciferae intake (eg broccoli) are believed to come from the presence of sulfur compounds called glucosinolates, and more specifically from their hydrolysis products, isothiocyanates, including sulforaphane.
Sulforaphane was isolated in 1992 by Professor Paul Talalay of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. It is the main isothiocyanate from broccoli. A number of in vitro, in vivo and clinical studies have revealed interesting properties of sulforaphane, including antioxidant and anti-inflammatory actions, as well as cell level protection. These qualities mean sulforaphane can contribute to proper functioning of the prostate.
There are several broccoli-based dietary supplements on the market. Most of them contain glucoraphanin, often under the misleading name “sulforaphane glucosinolate”. In fact, glucoraphanin is the molecular precursor of sulforaphane but is inactive in this form. This is why Nutrinov chose to develop Prostaphane®- to provide a dietary supplement based on free-form stabilized sulforaphane, which, unlike other dietary supplements, is the active form of sulforaphane. One Prostaphane® capsule contains the equivalent of approximately 100g (3.5oz) of raw broccoli.
Sulforaphane in free form is very sensitive to temperature variation and is therefore very difficult to stabilize. Thanks to the Nutrinov laboratory’s drive for technological innovation, solutions were found, resulting in two specific patents.
Today, Prostaphane® is the only dietary supplement on the market with free-form stabilized sulforaphane.
This stability can be maintained for up to three years in a refrigerator (+4°C/+8°C).
This production process was developed by Nutrinov and is protected by 2 patents.
Prostaphane® is made from broccoli seeds. The seeds are harvested in and are chosen for their quality and sulforaphane content. The seeds are guaranteed to be GM - free and can be traced from when they are sown to harvest.
All the various stages of the Prostaphane® production process take place in France. Firstly of all, the oil is removed from the seeds.
The resulting flour then undergoes a series of extraction processes based on a special specification to maintain sulforaphane intact. Once extracted, the sulforaphane is stabilised by micro-encapsulation, using a special procedure.
This procedure enables to obtain a powder of concentrated free, stabilised sulforaphane. The latter is then added to a capsule that provides 10mg of sulforaphane per capsule. The capsules are packaged in blisters of 30 or 90 capsules.
The production of Prostaphane® complies with European regulations.
The various stages of the production process are subject to very precise specifications.
Spot checks are conducted throughout the production process to ensure the quality and effectiveness of the product are maintained.
Production audits are also carried out on a regular basis, while traceability is guaranteed from the seed stage to distribution of the Prostaphane® blisters.
